The fixed-term contract  in Bulgaria

The fixed-term contract is signed :

  • for a specified period , which may not exceed three years in total;

and

  • to perform a well-defined and temporary work;

or

  • to replace an absent employee ( due to illness or parental leave , for example).

A labour contract is concluded for fixed-term employment and temporary, seasonal or short-term work and cannot be concluded for a permanent job with the company.

The fixed-term contract may be renewed once for a minimum period of one year. The maximum cumulative duration of fixed-term contracts cannot exceed 36 months. The contract of fixed-term employment becomes a labour contract with indefinite period  if the employee continues to work at least 5 days after the end of his final fixed-term contract without any written objection from the employer.
